Like A Child

Like a child I crawl
Rolled into a ball
Feeling so lonely
And looking so small

Like a child I fold
Keep my memories untold
Feeling revealed
In nights too cold

Like a child I kneel
Forgetting what’s real
Trying to numb away
Distance I always feel

Like I child am I.
I hope you know why
Cause when I’m without you
I just want to cry

Like a child tonight
Hide away from the light
Entwined in my own arms
Unravelling lost sight

Like a child I’m scared
And underprepared
To handle the absence
Of someone who cared

The Eyes of Winter

You are a winter sunset, vibrant and red;
But all the sea of tears in my eyes
Crests, and pounding, carves my cheek dead,
Until the clouds fade to sparkling skies.

In vain you stroke my tangled tresses o’er,
Pretending to seek what, beloved, is fate
By men’s fists and iron; ah, but more
Exists in me than a heart which those men ate.

I am a ruin where hatred never rests
And jackals grope and scrape me, then do stray—
A sliding fingertip tears at your naked chest!

Winter, cold shards of spirits, do not delay!
With cracking eyes that shatter those who care
Freeze the flickering flame within my glare.
