I am acquainted with the night
Her dark eyes stare into mine
As we search for something a bit more
Than what we may see after the sun
Has had his day
And I wish my soul could shimmer
Like her iridescent sighs of
That which is not to come
And that which is.
I know the duskness of each woman
Is nothing like the ebony around me now
And no glimmer of thought could convince
Me of what you know
Because I know what the night holds
Cloudy, but my soul can shimmer
Like every glowing sign of
That which hasn’t been
And that which has.
Every star is a quality, a trait
I have chosen to associate with the night.
Sometimes my ponders can travel toward filled skies
And find their way past my pillowed imaginings
Because I know the what the night holds
Maybe one day my soul will shimmer
Extending past her glittery amazement of
Things that haven’t been told
And things that have.
I will be that ever-knowing pensive star
Chasing away nightmares, so cold
I’m acquainted with the night
And I know every dream she holds
