Fireflies

by Jordan Green

Blinking light across the grass,
on then off again so fast.
Fireflies enchant my sight,
staring in the lonely night.

Then my thoughts begin to fly
to your medium-blue eyes
so far away. My feeling's clear:
tonight I wish you could be here

to touch the fireflies with me
and think of places we could be
together wishing on a star
inside our gleaming, shining jar.

Flashing lights on my way home,
thinking of you all alone-
Navy skies and harvest moons,
fireflies and see-you-soon's.

The stars connect an outline of
a guy who satiates true love,
buzzing underneath the trees,
lighting ways between tall weeds.

I touched the fireflies tonight,
my blanket wrapped around me tight
instead of you so far away,
counting down until that day

when we can touch the fireflies
underneath dark star-filled skies.
Your lips are lonely- so are mine.
Meet them when our souls entwine

around a circle twinkling still;
in nature's haven, peace I feel.
I hope my dream will prove so true-
to touch the fireflies with you.
