Italian Sonnet

by Jordan Green

If nothing could stop me from loving you,
I think I’d dance the day away in glow.
I sadly stoop my head in tragic woe,
To think you’re leaving in a week or two.
And so, my love, I leave my heart today
In your utmost and utter loving care,
In hope that our true sorrow will be rare.
I know I cannot beg you here to stay.
My heart is full in knowing we’ve done right
And yet, I feel a hollow carved alone
To be a dream of yours this somber night
Would be the only wish my heart could own.
And so, my love, although you’re far from sight,
I know you’ll never leave my heart unsewn.
