And now I’m here
My final resting place
With my sandy feet crossed
And a furrow on my face
Alone but alive
I watch smooth waves
On my grass patch
I don’t have to be brave

The clouds are spotted
Like puffy-eyed tears
Wisps of white in the sky
Like hair tucked in my ear
All I own is this notebook
And a shirt that’s too bold
And distant reminders
Of stories I’ve told

Like the time we went swimming
In my jeans and your shirt
Or when I slipped on a rock
And lied, “It don’t hurt.”
But it does, and I do
While a bird flies away
I’m not talking to you
No more words left to say

The sand is still wet
Like drip-dropping tears
Crashing crests on the beach
Drown out my ears
All I need is some poetry
Some space and some rhyme
To sin through my thoughts
And waste all your time

Yet dusk approaches
And I’m still not cold
Pretending to shiver but
Your touch is untold
I don’t care that I’m hungry
Cause I’m feeling complete
So I’m writing and smiling
Through words I am free

The grass scratches my jeans
Like palms wipe my tears
Crickets chirp and I hate the
Lack of silence that I hear
All I know is my karma’s
Been playing me bad
Because I’m here and you’re not
But I still don’t feel sad.
