Five

by Jordan Green

Five
words fall through my lips
like I’m running out of reasons
to forget what to say
drops blink from my lids
like I’m washing out memories
to purify my brain

and I scream out of boredom
tearing down the invincible
and invisible fences around me
but I’m scared of myself
like I belong somewhere else
shaking off these emotions

songs swim out my ears
like I’m dancing in the waves
to laugh out loud for reals
flowers enter my nose
like yesterday’s coming back
to beautify this world

and I touch you two times
clawing at your invincibility
you’re vanishing to me
and you’re scared of me
leaving me somewhere else
dropping to your knees

spinning, falling
winning, crawling
walking through the yellow woods
surrounding all my dreams

plunging, twisting
hugging, missing
tripping over slate-like rocks
surrounded by your scent

and I smile at your eyes
building up my stature
everything I see is clear
not scared or frightened
even if you’re somewhere else
keep it light, remember me
